Mexican Pocket Shrine Workshop

Saturday, October 18, 2025 (2:00 PM - 4:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

As a part of our exhibit Nosotros: A Celebration of Latin & Hispanic Culture, create a beloved Mexican pocket shrine or altar unique to you. These decorative tins are made to hold reverence for a particular deity or your own loved ones and are designed to be easily carried, allowing individuals to have a personal space for contemplation while on the go. Small metal tins will be provided, but participants may bring one they would prefer to use. In addition, paint, papers, assembly materials, and a few decorative items will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring a few trinkets that “speak” to you to add a personal touch. Accompanying the step-by-step assembly instruction will be an explanation of the significance of the shrine in Mexican culture. You’ll have your own shrine by the end of the workshop – something to keep close as a reminder for whatever you hold reverence for.
