Resources, Books, and Light Dinner includes.
As families gather around the dinner table this Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, one thing is inevitable—those tricky family dynamics. But what if we could navigate these get-togethers with a little more peace and a lot less drama? That’s where Powell Mental Health comes in!
Powell Mental Health is collaborating with Dionne Nicholls-Germain, a speaker, a Forbes-featured author, and creator of The 90-Day Conquering Unforgiveness Journal to offer The Forgiving for Thanksgiving 2-Day Bootcamp to the community of Connecticut. Our mission is to help people release the burden of unforgiveness and embrace the true healing that comes from letting go. As the holidays approach, Dionne's work is more important than ever, giving people the tools they need to handle those tense moments with grace and compassion.
Here are two quick tips that can help your audience survive this holiday season:
1. Practice the Power of Gratitude: Take a few moments before arriving to think of three things you’re grateful for about each person you’ll be spending time with—even if it’s small. This shifts your focus from past grievances to positive qualities, helping you approach the gathering with a more open heart.
2. Cultivate Empathy with a “Walk in Their Shoes” Moment: Before you step through the door, imagine the experiences, challenges, or emotions that might be shaping each family member’s behavior. This simple exercise can soften resentment and create space for compassion, making it easier to forgive and release any lingering tension.
These practices can help you walk into holiday dinners with a heart more open to peace and connection, no matter what comes up at the table!
