Amazon Strengthens Community Partnership with Windsor Public Schools through Generous Literacy Kit Donation

Amazon continues to deepen its commitment to the Windsor community by donating over 200 literacy kits to Oliver Ellsworth Elementary School. The BDL4 Amazon Fulfillment Center, located in Windsor, CT, spearheaded this initiative as part of Amazon's ongoing education campaign, demonstrating the company’s dedication to supporting local students and families.

Amazon representative Natalie Daye, General Manager’s Assistant and leader of volunteer activities at the BDL4 Fulfillment Center, emphasized the importance of these community efforts, stating, “Supporting our surrounding communities has always been important to us. We value the opportunity to give back to the places many of our employees and their families call home.”

The partnership began in 2023 when Oliver Ellsworth’s library teacher, Amanda Draizen, was contacted by the non-profit Reading is Fundamental about a potential collaboration with Amazon to provide free books for students. Draizen, eager to expand access to reading materials, immediately responded with interest. That year, the school received 100 literacy bags, each containing three books. The bags were distributed at Open House, accompanied by a handout created by Draizen and the reading coach to guide families on supporting reading and writing at home. The initiative was a tremendous success, and Draizen was thrilled to receive a similar offer from Amazon again in 2024, resulting in an increased donation of 200 literacy bags.

Taran Gruber, Principal of Oliver Ellsworth, highlighted the significant impact of Amazon’s support on student development. “Windsor is focused on students being socially responsible, self-aware, critical thinkers, problem solvers, and effective communicators. Through these literacy kit donations, Amazon is not only promoting reading at home but also reinforcing Windsor Public Schools’ mission to cultivate lifelong learners. The partnership showcases Amazon’s dedication to making a difference in the community by providing students with the tools they need to succeed academically and beyond.
