Windsor Offers Food Assistance Resources During Federal Shutdown

In light of the ongoing federal government shutdown, the Town of Windsor Social Services Department and the Windsor Food & Fuel Bank, Inc. are working together to ensure that residents who receive food assistance or SNAP benefits continue to have access to food support programs and accurate information.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has informed the State of Connecticut that SNAP benefits may not be available in November 2025 if the shutdown continues. Benefits already loaded onto EBT cards will remain available for use through October 31, 2025, and residents can continue using any remaining funds on their cards after that date until the federal government reopens.

“We want Windsor residents to be aware of the programs available to assist them, and to know that the Town of Windsor and their local Windsor Food & Fuel Bank are here to support them during this difficult time,” says Joanna Gould, President of the Windsor Food & Fuel Bank, a 501©(3) nonprofit organization that works with Windsor Social Services to accomplish its Mission of assuring that no Windsor resident is hungry, cold, or without basic necessities.

To assist residents affected by the shutdown, Windsor Social Services has created a resource page at windsorct.gov/930 that will provide the latest updates on benefit availability, local and statewide food programs, and ways for residents to access assistance. This page will be updated regularly by Social Services staff as new information becomes available. (A QR code to that page is at the bottom of this press release)

Local resources remain open to support residents in need. The Windsor Food Bank, Groceries to Go senior food distribution program, and Weekend Wheels student backpack program are all available to qualifying Windsor residents. Connecticut Foodshare’s mobile pantry sites continue to operate across the state, offering fresh produce and perishable items. The Connecticut WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program also remains active, providing nutrition education and supplemental food benefits for eligible families.

Residents who want to help can donate non-perishable food items to the Windsor Food & Fuel Bank. Smaller donations can be brought to Windsor Social Services office at L.P. Wilson Community Center at

599 Matianuck Ave. on Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ideal drop-off times are Mondays and Tuesdays, 11:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
